PROJECT UPDATE - AUGUST 2021
Thank you very much to everyone who participated in Phase 2: Explore.
The What We Heard report has now been published.
In Phase 3: Reveal (December 2021 / January 2022), we will present the recommended plan and use input from Calgarians to refine and finalize the design.
We will also share how input received in Phase 1: Discover and Phase 2: Explore shaped the evaluation criteria and recommended plan for the study area.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The City of Calgary is undertaking a functional planning study for 11 Street S.W. / CP Rail project area. 11 Street S.W. provides a vital link between the Beltline and downtown west end across the barrier of the CP Rail line which bisects downtown Calgary. With the recent closure of 8 Street S.E., 11 Street S.W. is the only remaining at-grade rail crossing in the centre city and sees significant use by people who walk, wheel, take transit and drive to access parks, grocery stores, restaurants, commercial amenities, apartment buildings and offices in the surrounding area.
Changes in the 11 Street S.W. / CP Rail study area will create a safer and more comfortable space for people who walk, wheel, take transit and drive through the area.
The project began in Fall 2020. The Discover phase of the project was completed in Winter 2021. We are currently in the Explore phase of the project. Public engagement for the Explore phase will take place in Spring/Summer 2021.
