Downtown is where originality and possibility collide, opening minds, expanding horizons and fueling the city’s imagination. From May 17th until the beginning of June, a creative wayfinding mural will be painted in front and behind the Municipal Building in time for summer, to increase connections between the Downtown Core and the East Village. This temporary project will be in place until 2025, at which time an evaluation will occur and next steps will be determined.
The premise is to invite people to take a short cut through the Municipal Building into the East Village (or visa-versa) and explore destinations on either side including:
- The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre
- Arts Commons
- Galleria of Trees
- Olympic Plaza
- The Calgary Central Library
- The Bounce
- Fort Calgary
- The National Music Centre
This project is a part of the Activate + Experiment program to test ideas through public space activations and design ideas. We’ll be trying alternative forms of wayfinding and collecting metrics to understand impacts of the design. A survey will be available in June to collect your feedback.
