PROJECT UPDATE – Spring 2023
On January 24, 2023, Council accepted the recommended plan for the future widening of Country Hills Boulevard N.E. from Barlow Trail N.E. to Harvest Hills Gate N.E. This plan identifies mobility improvements for existing roadway users and area residents, it includes the addition of a multi-use pathway for active modes of transportation, and it outlines how these improvements will support future growth in the area.
The details of this study and the accepted recommendations can be found in the Executive Summary.
The project will move forward with detailed designs and construction when funding becomes available.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Country Hills Boulevard N.E. provides an essential east-west connection in north Calgary, establishing a vital link to Deerfoot Trail and access to the Calgary International Airport. Planning for the widening of Country Hills Boulevard N.E. between Barlow Trail and Harvest Hills Gate N.E. to six lanes will improve mobility for nearby residents and support future growth in the area. This project will also improve sustainable transportation modes along the corridor by adding separated walking and wheeling facilities (i.e. 5A Network connections – Always Available for All Ages and Abilities Network).
Project objectives:
- Better accommodate people who walk, bike, take transit and drive.
- Improve safety for those who travel through, or commute along, the study area.
- Widen the three remaining four-lane sections of Country Hills Boulevard between Barlow Trail and Harvest Hills Gate N.E. to six lanes:
- Harvest Hills Gates and 14 Street N.E. westbound (1 km)
- East of Harvest Hills Way N.E. and 11 Street N.E. eastbound (600 meters)
- Vicinity of the Deerfoot Trail interchange area, both directions (1 km)
- Widen the three existing bridges along country Hill Boulevard N.E.
- Deerfoot Trail, Nose Creek and the CP Rail tracks
- Minimize impacts within the study area.
