ABOUT THE PROJECT
Great communities are built on opportunities to connect and get active. The City has completed a comprehensive program of work that included determining the long-term future of the Beltline and Inglewood recreation facilities and identifying service alternatives and targeted investments to maximize community and social benefits. The final recommendations were provided to Council and approved on May 31, 2021.
The program was divided into three phases:
Through 2020, the project completed a Discover phase, in which we sought to understand the social & recreational needs and opportunities of the Beltline and Inglewood/Ramsay communities. This work included public engagement, market research and consultation with City Partners and service providers. Community members in particular were engaged as part of the process to ensure that their values and needs play a key role in developing recommendations that serve their needs.
The project has now completed a Design phase, in which we evaluated the results of the feedback in the Discover phase to develop recommendations for services or amenities in the community including the long-term future of these two facilities.
The project will now transition to a Deliver phase, in which we will implement Council’s direction regarding investments and actions to address community need and address the long-term future of the facilities. You can find these actions listed here.
The reports listed to the right summarize the analysis and synthesis of a large collection of data. These reports became the foundation for the recommendations to Council for next steps.
Discover Phase Summary
The Discover phase and the work it represents is part of a collaborative process to determine the long-term futures of the Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre (Beltline Facility) and the Inglewood Aquatic Centre (Inglewood Pool). Through a design thinking cycle process The City first sought to understand the social and recreational needs of the local residents. The Discover Report summarizes the considerable analysis and synthesis of a large collection of data. The results are summarized here through: Key Insights, Project Frames and Design Principles, which will become the foundation for generating and testing of ideas to address these insights in the Design phase. Please refer to the Important Links section for the supplementary documents: What We Heard Report; Design Research Report; and Social Impact Measurement E-Scan.
