The Home Energy Label Program - New Home Pilot offers a rebate to builders who submit an EnerGuide label for new single-family, semi-detached, or duplex homes. We are expanding the rebate to different building types and need your input.

The Home Energy Label Program is a critical component of the Calgary Climate Strategy: Pathways to 2050 (2022) and the Climate Mitigation Action Plan (2022). The City, through a bylaw, will require all new, low-density homes to obtain an EnerGuide Label and disclose them on a publicly available Home Energy Performance map. The City is currently piloting the Home Energy Label process through the New Home Pilot prior to introducing a mandatory program through the proposed bylaw.

The New Home Pilot is currently available for Single family, semi-detached and Duplex building types, as all are included in the City’s Single Construction Permit. We are expanding the program to include higher density multi-unit residential buildings, specifically rowhouse-style or stacked townhouse-style housing. This expansion would look to follow the pathway of the existing New Home Pilot, by launching as a pilot and rebate period, with a move to make it mandatory in the future.
