Phase two engagement open April 10 - 30
Two concepts have been developed and we want your feedback. Review the proposed designs below, learn more and tell us what you think.
About the project
Kingsland Park, located at 7430 5 St. S.W., is a public park nestled in the heart of the southwest community of Kingsland. This former site of Kingsland School was formally designated as park space in 2024, confirming the long-term intent to keep this land in public use.
Since that time, The City has been working through a phased planning process to understand how the park can best serve both local and city-wide recreation needs.
A temporary pop-up park in summer 2024 tested ideas and activated the space. Public engagement in fall 2024 gathered input on how the park is used today and what the community values most.
The project is now in Phase two of engagement. The two proposed concepts can be viewed below. Both concepts include a bookable artificial turf field, along with park amenities that support everyday neighbourhood use.
Kingsland Park is moving into the next phase of planning.
We used technical analysis and community feedback to develop two park concepts that balance neighbourhood use with broader recreation needs. The concepts:
- Replace the former school playgrounds and include accessible and inclusive play features.
- Upgrade the existing sports field to provide a better community and recreation amenity.
- Provide amenities for community-building that will also support year-round multigenerational programming and activations.
- Expand the urban tree canopy and improve park space to promote climate resilience.
- We’re planning the future of Kingsland Park to create new spaces for everyone to play, socialize, relax and gather in the community.
- Kingsland Park will serve as a community hub, fostering social connectivity and healthy, active and creative living. It will provide access to public spaces that serve active and passive recreation needs.
- Transforming Kingsland Park is a step forward in realizing GamePLAN’s vision for accessible, inclusive public recreation that strengthens communities across Calgary.
- The project is also part of the Heritage Communities Local Area Plan and Connect: Calgary’s Parks Plan.

Public feedback received will be considered and balanced in conjunction with other factors such as design principles, site constraints and environmental, operational, and financial considerations.
Your feedback and input will help us consider how best to lay out the space and further plan the location of amenities desired within the park space.
Following phase two public engagement, we’ll review all comments and input and share a What We Heard report, showing how public feedback influenced space allocation and concept design.
A single, recommended concept for Kingsland Park will be revealed in summer 2026.

Engagement History
Project background
In July 2024, The City created a temporary "pop-up" park in Kingsland. The park offered a new space to play, socialize, relax and gather in the community.
Between September 16 - October 14, 2024, the public shared their thoughts on the pilot park and potential future long-term improvements in person and online. You can read the What We Heard Report by clicking here or by going to the "Engagement Reports" section on this page.
