Project Overview

The Housing Equity Project, led by The City of Calgary’s Chief Housing Office (CHO), aims to identify and remove the barriers that prevent equity-deserving Calgarians from accessing safe, suitable, and affordable housing. This work supports Home is Here: The City of Calgary’s Housing Strategy (2024-2030), specifically Outcome 4, which focuses on creating diverse housing choice to meet the needs of equity-deserving populations.

Calgary’s housing crisis is not only about building enough homes — it’s about who continues to be left behind and why. The City’s 2023 Housing Needs Assessment and other City-led research have consistently found that equity-deserving Calgarians continue to face systemic and persistent barriers to safe, suitable and affordable housing.
