Calgary is committed to providing high-quality, accessible and affordable recreational opportunities for all Calgarians. In 2021, the south field at Genesis Centre will be upgraded with artificial turf and lighting, which will extend the playing season and increase opportunities for public use. The new field will be the first artificial turf amenity in Calgary’s northeast.
Construction for this project began in Spring 2021 and was completed in Fall 2021 ahead of schedule.
ARTIFICIAL TURF FIELD LOCATION
The south field at Genesis Centre (located to the southeast of Genesis Centre) will be upgraded with artificial turf and lighting.

Why is the field being upgraded?
Upgrading the south field will to provide citizens in Calgary’s northeast communities with a higher-quality playing surface, extend the playing season and increase opportunities for public use.

Who will operate the field?
The Field will be operated by the Genesis Centre as part of their facility.
Will the community have access to the field?
Yes. The field will be bookable through the Genesis Centre. As a community field, it will stay open for public use when weather permits.
Where will washrooms and change rooms be located?
Washrooms and change rooms for the field will be located inside the Genesis Centre.
How much will it cost to book the field?
Costs for booking the field are still to be determined. The cost will be set by the Genesis Centre. The City of Calgary’s Public Use Policy requires that partner operated facilities are accessible to the public without discrimination as to the ability to pay. This includes setting reasonable fees that are not restrictive and making the facility available for public use through programs, rentals, and walk-ins.
What are the benefits of artificial turf?
Artificial turf benefits sport by increasing field capacity, sport participation and sport tourism while extending the playing season.
Why does the field need to be redeveloped?
Investment in outdoor amenities at the Genesis Centre will serve Calgary’s amateur sport community by increasing the playing season an available booking times. Investment in The City’s recreation infrastructure is important for promoting the local economy, fostering cultural vitality and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles.
What are the impacts to neighbours?
The City recognizes that construction creates additional dust, noise and traffic. The City will work to minimize the impact to the neighbouring community. The contractor will adhere to The City’s Community Standards Bylaw, 32M2023 for hours of operation, material storage and construction best practices, including dust mitigation.
How will field lighting change?
The field upgrade to artificial turf will include the installation of modern lighting. Modern light fixtures allows for better control of the lighting intensity, duration, and spillage control. The levels of light at the field will be regulated by the Community Standards Bylaw 32M2023.
Will the new field mean extra noise in the community?
Sources of noise (e.g. sport users and events) will remain the same. The levels of noise will align with Community Standards Bylaw 32M2023.

Should make an outdoor gym for adults and kids. Use only bodyweight exercises and no weights. Have chinup bars dip bars etc..
