In the Main Street Segment, highlights of the recommended plan include, separated sidewalks, crossings with enhanced markings and signals, opportunities for off-peak street parking in the long-term, opprtunities to include streetlight banners or other installations to celebrate Montgomery, additional tree canopy, and enhancements on Home Road, 46 Street N.W., and 43 Street N.W. as well as 16 Avenue N.W. to provide a unified public realm for Montgomery connecting Bowness Road, 16 Avenue, Shouldice Park, Bow River pathway and community parks and schools.

16 Avenue N.W. Main Street Segment improvements moving forward in the short-term:

Through this project, we have identified short-, medium- and long-term recommended plans. The short-term recommended plan focuses on safety improvements along 16 Avenue identified through the South Shaganappi Study, a traffic safety review and discussions with the community.

  • 50 km/h speed zones extended on both sides of Montgomery to provide lower speed approaches into the community
  • Transit stops and amenities (benches, shelters) improved
  • New traffic signal installed at 43 Street N.W.
  • Advance eastbound left turn signal provided at Home Road
  • Pavement rehabilitation between 43 Street N.W. and Bow River Bridge
