ABOUT THE PROJECT
Calgary’s Main Streets are places where citizens come together. They are resilient, adaptable and attractive places that celebrate the character of the community, encourage diversity of businesses, building and residents, and create a vibrant destination.
The Main Streets Program is one of the ways that The City of Calgary is working to achieve our vision “to make our city a great place to make a living, and a great place to make a life.” We are implementing a comprehensive process to transform our Main Streets into places people want to live, work and play.
There are 24 Main Streets across Calgary, as specified in the Municipal Development Plan – Calgary’s long-term growth plan. Through the Main Streets program, the 10 Avenue S.W. (between 14 Street and Crowchild Trail) and 14 Street S.W. (between 10 Avenue and 17 Avenue) Main Streets have been identified as a prime area for supporting business growth in Calgary.
Our team wants to gain an understanding of business needs and if there are any known barrier to business development. We want to know if land use district (zoning) rules or the existing approval process limits the start of new businesses or the expansion of those that exist.
