PARKING

By design, Park and Rides have not been included in the Southwest BRT. The stations primarily serve local communities, with people accessing the stations from within the community by feeder bus, walking or cycling.

Due to concerns we’ve heard about potential vehicles from outside the community parking in residential areas near BRT stations, The City is considering a number of Residential Parking Zones (RPZ). These RPZs would be within a 600m radius of the future BRT station areas and would enable the process for implementing parking restrictions. You can find existing RPZs in many communities that are close to LRT stations, hospitals and some larger school sites.

Right now, we’re exploring the possibilities for RPZs around the following station areas:

  • 75 Avenue S.W. (existing RPZ)
  • Heritage Drive
  • 90 Avenue S.W.
  • Southland Dr./19 Street S.W.
  • 24 Street S.W./Braeside Dr
  • 24 Street S.W./Southland Dr
  • 24 Street S.W./Woodview Drive
  • 24 Street S.W./Woodpark Blvd

RESIDENTIAL PARKING ZONE

What happens once Council approves the RPZs?

Once RPZs are approved by Council and designated, residents can then call 311 to request a Residential Parking Permit Zone Petition, which allows residents in the zone to petition their block neighbours for The City to implement parking restrictions on their residential street.

A resident-led process is necessary because each block within the approved-zone could have a different parking restriction (or no restriction) in place throughout the day (and possibly night), depending on what the property owners on each block decide. The result means parking restrictions are in place for people travelling to the area from outside the community, while still allowing street parking for residents.

NEXT STEPS

The City will review feedback and continue reviewing the Residential Parking Zone (RPZ) boundaries. Check the project website for updates on RPZ’s and what steps residents can take.

FEEDBACK MAPS

Feedback is now closed. Thank you to everyone who provided input.

Below you'll see series of maps where we people provieded feedback. The Southwest BRT route was broken out into five maps where stations are clustered. Southwest BRT Station locations are identified below as white circles with red outlines.

On the maps below, we asked people to identify any key concerns they had related to parking that they'd like the project team to know.
