PROJECT UPDATE - FALL 2020

The Discover Phase of this project is complete, please have a look at the following reports:

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Great communities are built on opportunities to connect and get active. The City of Calgary has begun a process to understand how Calgarians who live, work, and play in the Beltline and Inglewood/Ramsay communities use social and recreational spaces. Your input helps us to make decisions that reflect your needs.

This is part of a collaborative process to determine the long-term futures of the Beltline & Inglewood Recreation facilities. The project is divided into three phases:

  • Discover, we sought to understand the social & recreational needs and opportunities of these communities.
  • Design, in which we’ll evaluate the results of the feedback in the Discover phase to develop recommendations for services or amenities in the community including the long-term future of these two facilities.
  • Deliver, in which we’ll move forward on Council’s direction regarding investments and actions to address community need and address the long-term future of the facilities.

We have completed the Discover phase and invite you to review what we have learned about the social and recreational needs of these communities. The Beltline & Inglewood/Ramsay Social and Recreational Needs project is now moving into the Design Phase.

In the Design phase, we will take the key learnings from the Discover phase and develop and test options for meeting local social and recreational needs and insights.

We will do this through the following stages:

  1. Idea generation: We will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to generate a large and diverse number of ideas to meet the social and recreational needs and insights identified.
  2. Idea analysis and prototyping: We will review the ideas generated and select those that we can further develop through small scale prototyping.
  3. Testing and feedback: We will share promising prototypes to gather feedback and refine these options.

The findings of this phase will inform recommendations to Council in Q2, 2021.

PAST ENGAGEMENT

Please click on each community tab to view the results of the activity identifying where people who live, work and play in the community go to meet social and recreation needs. These maps will no longer accept new input.

The Discover phase and the work it represents is part of a collaborative process to determine the long-term futures of the Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre (Beltline Facility) and the Inglewood Aquatic Centre (Inglewood Pool). Through a design thinking cycle process The City first sought to understand the social and recreational needs of the local residents. The Discover Report summarizes the considerable analysis and synthesis of a large collection of data. The results are summarized here through: Key Insights, Project Frames and Design Principles, which will become the foundation for generating and testing of ideas to address these insights in the Design phase.
