Updating the Palliser lift station

The existing sanitary lift station, located at the entrance to South Glenmore Park (9035-24th St. SW.), was built in 1968 and requires significant infrastructure upgrades to extend its lifecycle and ensure ensure long lasting, efficient service. Because this lift station is located at the entrance to one of Calgarian’s favourite city parks, we want to give citizens and local residents the option to help choose the exterior finish - and help ensure it matches the aesthetic of the community and natural park surroundings.

As part of this work, a secondary building is required. Items such as safety requirements and building codes (and best practices among them) have significantly changed since 1968, resulting in the increased space requirements.

Project Overview

What is a lift station?

Calgary’s wastewater system is a gravity fed system – that means that sanitary flows are mostly driven by gravity to get wastewater to our treatment facilities. A sanitary lift station is essentially a pump that moves sanitary wastewater towards The City’s wastewater treatment facilities when gravity is not an option due to the elevation of an area.

What can we expect?

While construction is not anticipated until Summer/Fall of 2022, we want to let the community know about this upcoming work, as well as, to provide an opportunity for you to help choose the exterior finishes so that it suits the preferences of the community and/or the surrounding park’s aesthetic.
