Lifecycle process

In 2019, two new playgrounds were installed in the community, contingent on the removal of the wooden play structure at 3 Citadel Park NW, noting that the play structure could remain in place until it no longer meets safety standards. Due to safety concerns and ongoing deterioration, the playground was removed in 2025.

Initially, community engagement in 2024 led The City to propose the installation of a game park at this site, featuring amenities like ping pong tables, corn hole and funnel ball. These items have been procured for installation in 2026.

Learn more about the feedback we gathered during the 2024 engagement within the What We Heard Report.

Update:

Recently, we’ve heard from community members who would like us to reconsider installing a traditional playground instead. To address this feedback, we are presenting two options for your consideration:

Option 1 – Game Park Amenities
Install the already-procured game park amenities, which include:

  • Ping pong table
  • Corn hole
  • Funnel ball
  • Hopscotch stencil on asphalt

Option 2 – Multi-Play Unit
Install a new multi-play unit designed for various age groups, offering traditional playground features.

  • The new playground will not be a like-for-life replacement, as new installations must meet current design standards and are subject to supply availability.
  • Swings will not be part of the replacement design because their inclusion would not allow for an optimized use of the available site footprint.
  • Hopscotch stencil on asphalt

Timelines & Implementation Implications

Your choice will impact the timing of installation:

If a Playground is Selected:

  • New design and procurement processes will be needed, with installation projected for 2027.

If the Game Park is Reaffirmed:

  • With materials already purchased and contracts in place, installation is projected for 2026.

*Earlier on this summer you may see some hopscotch stencils going onto this site as part of the park and play program - these hopscotch stencils will be a part of either design option.
