About the project

Ronmor Holdings Inc., Shane Homes, and Qualico Communities have partnered with The City of Calgary and will be coordinating with adjacent jurisdictions including Rocky View County (The County) and Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) to develop a functional plan for a new roadway at 160 Avenue N.W.

Project objectives

  • Plan for a new roadway, 160 Avenue N.W., that will connect to Shaganappi Trail N.W. / Highway 772, Mountain View Road N.W., and 24 Street N.W. / Panorama Road N.W.

The new roadway planned for 160 Avenue N.W. will include:

  • Pathways and multi-modal transportation connections to planned residential development in the Glacier Ridge Area Structure Plan (ASP) area;
  • active transportation infrastructure for people who walk and wheel (e.g., shared-use pathway); and
  • incorporate safety and best practices considering all travel modes for people who drive, wheel, cycle, walk or take transit through the area.

Glacier Ridge Area Structure Plan

An area structure plan (ASP) is a long-term planning document that guides the growth and development of undeveloped lands into a complete community. It is the first step in setting general land use concepts and establishing general land use concepts, as well as overarching planning policies that guide the development of unserviced lands with an area.

Planned developed in the new neighbourhoods located in the 160 Avenue N.W. study area were approved by City Council on December 18, 2015, as part of the Glacier Ridge ASP. The ASP sets out key goals for this area which include:

  • Making pedestrian and cyclist movement a priority
  • Improving transit service
  • Developing street networks
  • Ensuring emergency services access

The 160 Avenue N.W. FPS will build on approved studies and plans, including the Glacier Ridge ASP, as a foundation. The FPS is the next step to finalizing requirements for the future design and construction of the new roadway for 160 Avenue NW.
