ABOUT THE PROJECT

The 4 Avenue Flyover Public Space project seeks to enhance an underused community space under the 4 Avenue Flyover. Using feedback from residents and stakeholders, Landscape Architecture students from the University of Calgary worked with Grade 6 students from Langevin School in a youth-led design process to create concepts for how this space could be reimagined.

A community task force was organized and prepared the Bridgeland Riverside Community Association 4 Avenue Flyover Public Space Enhancement Project document for City consideration.

This project is also connected to The City of Calgary’s Pedestrian Strategy. Action 17 of the Pedestrian Strategy is to establish a Tactical Urbanism program. Tactical Urbanism is a term that is used to describe a collection of low-cost, temporary changes to the built environment. It is intended to improve local neighbourhoods and city gathering places and provides the opportunity to test temporary enhancements to envision long term change.

Some inspirational examples of how other cities have reimagined underused space can be seen in this urban planning web article.

YOUR INPUT - PHASE TWO

In the second phase you were invited to participate online and in-person in this collaborative design process by sharing your input on which ideas you thought would best enhance this public space. Your feedback is included in the What We Heard Report. Input will be used to select design ideas that will be used to begin construction of this community space.

Thank you for providing your input. The survey is now closed.

YOUR INPUT - PHASE ONE

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback in the first phase of engagement. Your feedback regarding your priorities when reimagining the space under the 4 Avenue Flyover is included in the What We Heard Report and was presented to the students at Langevin School and the University of Calgary on February 9. These students, with your input, have created designs of how the space beneath the 4 Avenue Flyover could become a valued community space.

NEXT STEPS

The project team is currently working on a final design concept which will be shared here in June 2017.
