Over the last year, residents of Beddington Heights identified ways to help their neighbourhood become an even better place to live, work and play.

Residents outlined what was important to them, focusing on the themes of people, places, programs and possibilities. These discussions led to the development of Beddington Heights’ community vision: A neighbourhood where we feel safe, build community connections and love to live, work and play.

The City then worked with residents to identify projects that would support the vision and be possible in their neighbourhood. Residents prioritized the projects and City Administration ensured they could be implemented.

The following is a summary of programs, services and/or small-scale infrastructure improvements that The City of Calgary will implement in partnership with residents of Beddington Heights:


Neighbourhood improvements for Beddington Heights


Improvement Project: Adult Programming (Tai Chi)

Project Details: The City will work with residents to provide a local recreational opportunity for adults.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Provides an opportunity for people to gather and connect while improving their health.

Target Completion Date: Complete


Improvement Project: Community Banners and Flags

Project Details: The City will work with residents to create community banners and flags while also developing a long-term maintenance plan to be led by the community.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Engaging residents in building a sense of place and neighbourhood identity through the use of art.

Target Completion Date: Forthcoming in 2017


Improvement Project: Community Cleanup Enhancement

Project Details: Organized events designed to help save residents a trip to the landfill for items that do not fit in their waste and recycling carts.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Providing an opportunity for residents to improve their personal and community spaces.

Target Completion Date: Complete


Improvement Project: Community Play Day

Project Details: A free family event featuring a variety of fun and interactive activities.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Provides an opportunity for people in the community to connect, play and develop friendships.

Target Completion Date: Complete


Improvement Project: Fun Bus

Project Details: A free community bus that transports children to a local recreation facility for special events.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Helps reduce social and economic barriers for children to experience play and build friendships.

Target Completion Date: Complete


Improvement Project: Grass and Dandelion Maintenance (Confluence Park, Goat pilot project)

Project Details: The City will work with the community to identify enhanced cutting and weed control measures for local parks.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Improves the aesthetics of the neighbourhood’s parks and green spaces.

Target Completion Date: Complete


Improvement Project: Lawn Chair Theatre

Project Details: A free family event featuring great snacks and live entertainment.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Adds to the vibrancy of the neighbourhood and contributes to a friendly neighbourhood.

Target Completion Date: Complete


Improvement Project: Open Green Spaces and Parks Plan

Project Details: The City will work with the community to develop a long-term plan for the future use of the neighbourhood’s existing green spaces.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Engaging residents and the community associations to work together to develop gathering and play spaces that meet the needs of the neighbourhood.
