PROJECT UPDATE - Dec. 6, 2022

The Tomorrow’s Chinatown program reached a significant milestone today as Council approved the Chinatown Cultural Plan, giving first reading to the Chinatown Area Redevelopment Plan. Together, these two plans play an important role to ensure Chinatown remains a vibrant, culturally rich place to live, visit, work and do business, for generations to come.

Community members provided valuable feedback and insight throughout the engagement. Volunteers dedicated many hours to ensure outcomes reflected the community’s hopes and priorities for Chinatown’s future.

Thank you to the Tomorrow’s Chinatown Advisory Group and the community members of Chinatown and Calgary who shared their time, knowledge and energy to inform this work.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Chinatown is one of Calgary’s most distinctive cultural communities, with a long history. It is a unique area, important to Calgary and to its residents, visitors and business.

Together, with the Chinatown community, we are working to create the first Cultural Plan and a new Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) for Chinatown.

These two plans have the shared goal: to support Chinatown’s future growth, so it remains a vibrant, culturally-rich place to live, visit, work, and do business for generations to come.

You can learn more about how the community helped create the plans by reviewing the what we heard reports below:
