Over the last year, residents of Springbank Hill identified ways to help their neighbourhood become an even better place to live, work and play.

Residents outlined what was important to them, focusing on the themes of people, places, programs and possibilities. These discussions led to the development of Springbank Hill’s community vision: An active, safe and desirable community connecting residents and stakeholders to enhance our quality of life.

The City then worked with residents to identify projects that would support the vision and be possible in their neighbourhood. Residents prioritized the projects and City Administration ensured they could be implemented.

The following is a summary of programs, services and/or small-scale infrastructure improvements that The City of Calgary will implement in partnership with residents of Springbank Hill:


Neighbourhood improvements for Springbank Hill


Improvement Project:
Community Banners and Flags

Project Details: The City will work with residents to create community banners and flags while also developing a long-term maintenance plan to be led by the community.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Engaging residents in building a sense of place and neighbourhood identity through the use of art.

Target Completion Date: Forthcoming 2017


Improvement Project: Community Needs and Preference Study

Project Details: The City will work with the Springbank Hill Community Association to provide training on how to better engage residents and other neighbourhood stakeholders.

Impact to Neighbourhood: The community associations will gain new ideas about how to deliver relevant programs and services by engaging residents in their neighbourhood.

Target Completion Date: Forthcoming 2017


Improvement Project: Community Play Day

Project Details: A free family event featuring a variety of fun and interactive activities.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Provides an opportunity for people in the community to connect, play and develop friendships.

Target Completion Date: Complete


Improvement Project: Garbage Bin in Public Parks

Project Details: The City will work with the community to identify garbage bins which will be painted by City approved artists.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Encourages litter reduction and improves the aesthetics of the neighbourhood’s parks and green spaces.

Improvement Project: Lawn Chair Theatre

Project Details: A free family event featuring great snacks and live entertainment.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Adds to the vibrancy of the neighbourhood and contributes to a friendly neighbourhood.

Target Completion Date: Complete


Improvement Project: Park n' Play and Stay n' Play

Project Details: A free one-week summer recreation program for children.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Provides an opportunity for children and their families to come together while encouraging recreation and play.

Target Completion Date: Complete


Improvement Project: Pathways and Parks Map

Project Details: The City will work with the community to develop a series of maps to highlight local pathways and parks.

Impact to Neighbourhood: Will help increase resident’s knowledge of neighbourhood greenspaces and play spaces.
